Bill’s 50th Anniversary Fundraiser

As many of you know, we recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of Bill Shaffer as Scoutmaster of Troop 26. Over 500 people gathered to celebrate the occasion and honor Bill for his service and impact on their lives. It was an amazing event with proclamations, testimonials, gifts, awards, tears, and special guests.

However, you may not know that over 15 years ago Bill Shaffer and a group of Assistant Scoutmasters formed a nonprofit corporation called Tulsa 26 Scouts, Inc. The mission of this 501(c)(3) corporation was to support Troop 26 and scouting in the Tulsa area. Over the past five years this nonprofit corporation has provided:

  • $10,000 in summer camp and Jamboree scholarships;

  • $15,000 in support of STEAM Post 26,

  • Sponsorship of a multi-age competitive robotics team;

  • Over $5,000 in support for special events in our area including

    • the Vietnam Memorial Wall That Heals and

    • hundreds of patches for local camporees and events;

  • Hundreds of dollars to purchase materials for the Arrow of Light team and Troop 26 museum

At Bill's 50th celebration we announced an important change to this foundation. In honor of Bill Shaffer, the foundation has been renamed the Bill Shaffer Foundation. As part of the renaming of the organization we have also established an endowment that we intend to grow into a perpetual fund that will serve the needs of Troop 26 and other organizations in our area for many many years to come.

In order to achieve this goal, we need your help. Since we started the Bill Shaffer Foundation we have raised $35,000. This will go a long way toward supporting our youth and fulfilling the mission of the Foundation, but it is long way from establishing an ongoing endowment. In order to achieve that, we need to raise approximately $200,000 over the next couple of years.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Bill Shaffer Foundation. Your donation will be used for

  • Scholarships to camps, competitions, high adventure bases, and Jamborees

  • Grants for youth development organizations such as Troop 26, STEAM Post 26, Troop 126 (Tulsa's first all-girl troop), and the Tulsa Dream Center.

  • Support for area youth events such as the District Camporee, annual Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet, and others.

For the past 15 years, Tulsa 26 Scouts, Inc. has been a quiet but resounding success. It is time to take it to another level as the Bill Shaffer Foundation and create a lasting impact that mirrors the impact that Bill Shaffer has had on all of us. Please consider a generous donation to get this important effort off to a solid start.
